Le Bec-Hellouin, "most beautiful Village of France.

Ranked among the «Plus Beaux Villages de France», Le Bec-Hellouin is a typical Normandy village with houses timbered and flowery balconies. It is named after the Creek that borders and the founder of its famous Abbey reflecting with the Benedictine monastery of intense religious activity.

Brief summary of history

Founded around 1035, the Abbey of Bec became a very early one of the centres of Christian spirituality with the arrival of the Italian cleric Lanfranc. He founded schools that formed the great minds of the 11th and 12th centuries, before being named Archbishop of Canterbury and Primate of England.

But it is with the arrival of another Italian, Saint-Anselme, in 1059, the religious and philosophical thought reached its climax and marked throughout the West. The influence of the Abbey was important until the 14th century.

The hundred years war ruined Abbey. It was reformed in the 17th century by the maurist who rebuilt the monastic buildings, restored studies and discipline. Sold in 1792 to the military administration, it was transformed into barracks and cavalry remount depot. It was in 1948 that the monks olivetans of the communities of Mesnil-Saint-Loup and Cormeilles-en-Parisis settled there and restored the Abbey of Bec its spiritual and international influence.

The Bec Abbey

Located in the heart of the Risle Valley, the Abbey of Bec is founded in 1034 by Knight Herluin. It was in the middle ages a great intellectual and spiritual influence and his influence is exerted well beyond. It is occupied nowadays by a community of Benedictine monks, the Abbey retains important architectural testimonies of its rich past.

The Bec Abbey consists of the Chapterhouse, the cloister (17th century) and the majestic monastic buildings (18th century). The large church Abbey Church (14th century) has more than its foundations, the current church is located in the former refectory. The whole is dominated by the powerful Tower 15th century Saint-Nicolas.

Golf du Champ de Bataille

Champ de Bataille golf was established in 1990 by the American architect Robin Nelson and the french landscape architect Thierry Huau. The route enters the woods of the area of the Castle, borrows the natural valleys and passes through parts of water. Over 60 hectares, its path respects trees, the undergrowth engorged with ferns and huge rhododendrons beds.
