Architecture is an erudite and complex art of which one of the major functions is to give space reference marks and symbolic systems, which vary from one civilization to another. Reflection one time old, a culture, a company, it models the men and acts on their lifestyle.

One could regard architecture as higher than other arts: it relates to at the same time the pictorial field - the frontages are plans to be organized according to the openings, the ornamentations, the proportions -, the sculptural field - the buildings are volumes and masses to be balanced, contrast, put rhythm into - and the field of built internal space, i.e. the space delimited by walls and a roof. The architect is thus the total art if not project superintendent, at least of synthetic art par excellence.

At the time contemporary, several artistic movements regarded architecture as the convergence point of all arts, and, so of aucuns hesitate to recognize with architecture an esthetic superiority, no one cannot dispute its social importance: one does not escape architecture, one is perpetually confronted there, because it surrounds us, determines courses, attitudes.
